My shocked face at Subsonic rounds (unsuppressed)

Post by oneshort »

Hello,

Newbie here. Fired my first handloads of 300blk this weekend
I have never shot subsonic rifle rounds before and I was pleasantly surprised with the sound signature. Pulled the trigger, thump, no crack. Recoil was so weak I thought It was a squib, nope, POI was at POA...im in love.

I loaded by published load data from my Lyman 50th and Hornady load data.
Barrel: 16" 1:8, Pistol length gas.
Carbine Spring + 3oz buffer
Powder: A1680
Primer: CCI #450
Brass: PMC (large font)
COL: Published COL's

150gr Hornady FMJBT
COL: 2.090"
15.4gr
16.6gr

No issues with the above, rifle cycled fine with bolt lock back

208gr Hornady ELD Match
COL: 2.248" (under a couple thou to fit Gen3 PMAG comfortably)
10.4gr - Cycled but did not lock back on last round
11.3gr - Cycled and locked back. - Louder than the 10.4gr

I really liked shooting the 10.4gr and I think I will try 10.6gr for my next visit as I want to stay under the 11.3gr.

I didnt want to buy large amount of projectiles for testing which is why I started with Hornady's. I just wanted to try both super and sub to see what the hoopla was about. :)

I coughed up for some Berry' 220gr and 147's FMJBT (New) from American Reloading.
TLDR heres the dumb question. Is it possible to load a subsonic 147gr round that will cycle an AR?

Welcome to both the forum, and the wonderful world of subsonic.

Got a suppressor yet? If not, it’ll blow your mind when you do!
