Speer reloading data

Post by jtcarm »

Anyone tried Speer's data for 150-grain bullets?

Their starting charge is 18.2 grains of LilGun, which is max in most other sources I've looked at. Their max is 20-grains compressed.

Sounds awfully hot to me.

My plinking load for 150gr FMJBT with lil'gun is 15.7gr. I've never tried pushing max pressure with it, but 20gr sounds really hot.

Just looked at my Speer phone app and it doesn't even list lil'gun as an option for 150gr bullets.

Look like Speer is using Sierra data.

Even tho that Sierra 150 is a FMJ and will have more pressure build up than a Speer bullet, 18 grains of Lil'gun as a starting load is asking for trouble.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.

My mistake, that is the Sierra App.

My paper Speer book is old enough that it doesn't even have anything for 300 Blackout.

No personal experience with the Speer 150 gr. bullets. But, yeah, it's not at all unusual when surveying several published sources to find one that is an outlier.

The Speer data does look hot. Quickload shows their starting load of 18.2 gr. already near the 55K SAAMI max. And their 20.0 gr. max load running north of 70K. Proof load territory.

I load Speer GD 150's with 300MP powder. Shoots well with good velocity.

Im no fan of lil Gun. Not in a MSR esp. it burns hot, Heat kills throats a d barrels. Its also a mono to compress it, I have gotten pressure spikes and ignition issues.

There are more things to a accurate load then top velocities. THAT is lil guns claim ta fame as I see it.
