What is a good bullet option for home defense (for use primarily within 20 yds with the possibility of plinking occasionally out to 100yds during training)?
AND, is there a second cheaper bullet option that matches or is pretty close to the ballistics of the primary bullet option?
My reasoning is that if my primary self defense bullet is expensive (say about 30 cents and up per projectile) then I would like to use a cheaper bullet with similar ballistics for strictly training purposes.
My gun: BCM AR, 9in barrel, Dead Air Wolfman suppressor
Home defense bullet options? Bullet #1 for readiness and #2 for training?

Maybe the same bullet for both uses.........I would vote for the Speer TNT. It runs about .16 each before shipping charges.

Kinda tricky question. You use a can so quiet - pretty much subs but need light to keep penetration down and work gas. Not much choice. Maybe the Hornady 100 half jacket with 6 gr A2400? Pressed lead nose.
I'm using a 170 cast over 8.5gr A2400 - about 357mag performance. Bang (kinda quiet) and a big whack @ 50 yrs. But it probably will go through most interior walls.

I'm A BIG FAN of the 125 grain TNT. Before the COVID issue, I was loading for $0.29 a round. My buddy killed a 130 pound pig with my load of 18.3 grains of H110 and the 125 grain TNT. that load shoots a ragged hole at 50 yards, my 300 Blk zero for a 10.5 inch pistol.

Another vote for the Speer TNT. I load them over either H110 or N110. I've taken the N110 load out to 165 yards in a 7 inch barrel and rang IPSC steel with a red dot on every trigger squeeze using only the mag as a shooting base. Its one ragged hole at 25 and 50 yards. Its very cost effective and performs well.
I am tinkering with a 110gr Nosler Varmegeddon load now in my 1:7 twist barrels. Those would be a good choice as well if you catch them on sale.
