IMR 4227 for supers and subs???

Post by skeetman77 »

I have a bunch of IMR 4227 on hand. What is your favorite load with this powder? I have all types of bullets from 110 blacktips to 220 SMK. I have 10,000 or so 190 gr Nosler CC’s that I load with 10.0 gr of 1680. I’d like to load up a few thousand rounds with this powder but curious as to what loads would be best. I also have Lilgun, H110, 1680, and Trailboss on hand. I worked up a load with Nosler 140’s and 17gr of Lilgun that are very accurate at 100 yards. So, what is your pet load with IMR4227?
Thanks,
T

I have not deliberately loaded supers with 4227 but...

These subsonic loads are what my 8" suppressed pistol likes. As always YMMV.
220 SMK in LC case. 9.7gr IMR 4227. CCI 400 primer. 2.220 COAL
225 Hornady BTHP in LC case. 8.8 gr IMR 4227. CCI 400 primer. 2.220 COAL
200 Maker HP in LC case. 8.4 gr IMR 4227. CCI 400 primer. 2.120 COAL

All three of these loads are 970-980 fps which is the speed range this barrel likes. Yours will most likely like something else.

Yep. My sub is "Lee 230 grain" hard alloy at 223 grains after powder coating. 9.5 grains 4227. Same powder for other subs.

I mostly use h110 for supers.

8” pistol gas, suppressed, full function.

Hornady 125 SST
11.3 grn 4227
2.130” COL
1040 fps.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.

I meant to say in the post above, that I really need to give people here the credit for that load. Both dolomite supafly and dellet suggested loads in that general range and they were very helpful to me.

Dolomite-Supafly tipped me onto IMR 4227 for subs and it has been great powder for subsonics.

I also settled on 9.5 gr 4227 with 218 gr Gallant bullets. Chased my tail for a bit when I started, due to the S&B primers I had grabbed giving MUCH lower velocity than they should, which I only discovered by switching to Win SRPs.
