N120 and 150 - 180 grain subs

Post by Sincerd »

Anyone ever do this? I know I saw some post with a large spreadsheet and someone who tried some of these loads. I know that vihtavuori list some of these loads on their website. However I never hear anything about them. Do they not cycle? Are they just not worthwhile ballisticly speaking?

The only reason I would want to try them is that I have a shit ton of 150 grain fmjs. I know they wouldn't expand like they should but might be cool to be able to shoot them not using ear protection.

I fired some Lee 200 gr cast and coated in a 10.5" pistol today. 9.4 gr N120 in once fired FC brass. Avg velocity in the 16" RARR was 1052, didn't get the pistol numbers due to a storm blowing in. I finished up the last 5 rounds busting 2" size rocks at 50 yds. I also tried some Lee 180's cast/coated with IMR 4227 but the charge was a bit light for full function in the pistol. 150 gr subs work well in the bolt gun, more of a challenge in the AR.
