Hornady 190 Sub-X Load data?

Post by jareed58 »

Where does one find load data for this bullet? Even Hornady's App doesn't list anything on the Bullet. I guess they will have it in their next Edition. Anyone know where to start with Accurate 1680 and/or VV N120? I am shooting a 8.5" 1:7 twist barrel, suppressed. Want to stay at about 1050fps (Under 1100fps). I have been able to piece together somewhere in the area of 11.6-11.8g of A1680. Cant find any COAL data. Any info on loads or where to turn my research, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I called Hornady and asked, for IMR4227 & A1680. They did not have data for IMR4227. I either didn’t ask them about test barrel length or forgot to record it.

For A1680, with 190 gr Sub-X at 2.070” OAL

Min 10.9 gr = 1,000 fps
Max 13.1 gr = 1,200 fps

Thanks, I would buy the App if I knew it had some 190 sub-x data.

Just got back from trying some 190 Sub-X this morning.

All rounds used LC reformed blank cases, WSR primers with OAL of 2.158 That's .015-.020 off the lands in my 9" 1-7 barreled SBR.

N120 10.5gr unsuppressed
854 fps
Bolt cycled and held back.

N120 10.5gr suppressed
885 fps
Bolt cycled and held back.

IMR4227 10.5gr unsuppressed
992 fps
No bolt cycle or held back.

IMR4227 10.5gr suppressed
996fps
Bolt cycled and held back.

Reloader 7 10gr unsuppressed
658 fps
Bolt cycled and held back.

Reloader 7 10gr suppressed
691 fps
Bolt cycled and held back.

I use all these powders at those weights for my 217-220 cast bullets and get bolt cycled and held back with similar velocities.

I can't give you accuracy accounts for them since I shake like a drunk going through withdrawals holding a vile of nitro but they do hit a 9" gong @ 50yd every time.

This bullet really likes mid 1100 fps & up for tight groups. And they get really tight.

Staying subsonic, the 11.4 gr load below grouped best at 1.5" 50 yards
The 11.8 gr load (super) grouped 0.75" at 50 yards

300AAC 8.5” 1:8 heavy BCA barrel w/suppressor
Newly reformed LC brass, CCI-41 primer
Hornady Sub-X 190 gr 2.078” OAL

Thanks! I am in the ballpark. I'm shooting 8.5" Barrel, also. Suppressor as soon as FBI has their fun. (3 months into the process) I have loaded up 5 each N120 starting at 12.0g down to 11.0g(2g increments). also 5 each A1680, starting at 12.6g down to 11.2g. Just found out the outdoor range is still operating in a limited capacity. Might wait a couple more weeks.

I finally found a use for the can of CFE BLK I bought a while ago. 12.5 grains under the 190 gr. SubX chrono average was 1035 fps. with A1680 and 12.5 grs they chronoed at 1040. shot out of a 9" pistol with an Omega suppressor.
