Crimped primer pockets...

Post by MeGrunt »

I picked up 1500 pieces of once fired mixed 300 BLK brass.

I found out that the Hornady, Federal, and CBC all have crimped primer pockets.

That makes using the Dillon 650 to load a real pain.

Now I have to deprime and swage the brass. I'm not going to sort it, just mass process it. I was really hoping this wasn't going to happen. Are there any other commercial 300 BLK ammo makers that crimp?

Thanks.

Are you sure they are crimped? Normally the only brass that is crimped is military brass and it is identified by not having the caliber stamped into the head, Commercial brass will have the manufactures stamp as well as the caliber.

I'm sure they are crimped. You can see the crimp ring and a primer won't go into the pocket.

Would you mind posting a pic of the headstamps?

yes hornady is crimped. frustrated the heck out of me when i foudn out the hard way and had to go back and re-do a bunch of brass to clean up the primer pockets.

a lot of manufacturers who are making ammo for ar's crimp for some damn reason.

FC 223 brass has a crimp for example,so the fact that they're crimping their primers on 300 blk isnt shocking at all.

Ooh but it’s even WORSE THAN THAT!!!

It’s NOT JUST this or that manufacturer!!! It’s SOECFIC kids from this or that manufacturer!!!

I have more than a few Fed marked brass NOT crimped then just as many that ARE!!! GRRR

I DONT sort head stamps for Most plinking blastin loads. Buy the sounds of the problems I’m guessing most/ many don’t either.

I was pretty good till my last brass delivery... I KNOW it’s 98% once fired because of where it’s from. But WHAT IT IS is the question. I get allot of blk hills. What that brass is depends upon the load and TEAR it was loaded!!!

It all boils down the the spec it was loaded to...

I simply run EVERYTHING new thru the swagger... Yea a PIA but wanna play... Thats the tune we gotta dance to.
