125gr Supers

Post by Suputin221 »

Any good loads for 125gr supersonics. I am using Nosler Ballistic Tips FWIW

I did see a lot of people using Lil Gun and I do have a bunch of Lil Gun but the warnings about unstable results in colder temps makes me want to find other options.

I was kind of hoping to find a decent load using Blue Dot but I also have 4227 and 4198 on my bench.

I dumped lilgun years ago and only use either N110 or 300mp for supers. If you search the pinned pet load section you will find my results there, as well as that from others.

I just loaded 500 rounds of Speer TNT 125 gr using 17gr of Lil Gun.
I've never experienced cold weather problems with this combo.

It had occurred to me to try a slightly reduced load because the 7" rifle does fine with 150gr supersonic loads.

I also like 300-MP, similar to H110 without the 'you went too far' pressure of H110. Underrated for supers, meters great, decent ES and SD numbers. Nice shooting load at 20.0 grains under 110 gr Vmax, 2.050, LC converted brass and Rem 7.5 primer. As always, work your way into someone else's data. Forgot to add, 125 gr TNT's and 19.0 gr 300-MP has been a nice load as well.

I've got 2 lbs of Blue Dot and prob 3-4 lbs of Lil Gun and maybe 5 lbs of 4227 so I'm not buying any other powders at this time.

You're not likely to get Blue Dot to cycle before you blow primers.

4227 is not going to give enough velocity in a 7" barrel to be good for anything but plinking with a Ballitic tip, but will be more accurate and consistent than Lil'gun.

Lil'gun will give you the highest velocity, worst accuracy and pressure spikes at the top end of the load.

I would not waste the powder and bullets testing 4198.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.

I've also got a 10" rifle that this ammo can/will get used in. For the 7" PDW I wouldn't be super concerned about accuracy, cause lets face it, that thing just won't be used at any serious distance anyway. If it will plink a half sized IPSC target out to 100 yds at most then I'd be fine w it. That is enough accuracy for "social" uses.

As mentioned lil gun int a viable option for me. ESP in a semi.

But I have burned pounds of 296 under 125 BT & SST to know my guns prefer this load. It’s a bit slower than most right at 2200 from my 16” barrels. It’s a sub MOA shooter if I do my part. It’s takes dozens of deer for us. Never lost any and 98% dropped with one a few steps.

My best ever accuracy load was with a 150g and 4227. It’s a Lao a “slow” load at almost 1800 but consistently under 1” out @ 200 for five shots over two of my four 300’s.

Try the 4227. But I agree it’s not gonna get y top velocities. But as I mentioned accuracy dosent require top velocities and top velocities ain’t “all that” all the time. ;)

Good luck
