Did a quick test piggybacked on match day. Tested 9.1 gr IMR4227 with Sub-X at 2.055” OAL.
3 shots from Leonidas AR average 946 FPS. Ejects fine, didn’t get full bolt lock on 2 shots. Too slow anyway.
3 shots from RARR 16” with Griffin Sportsman can average 820 FPS. Shots were 788, 794, 875. Big jump last shot.
Yes, RARR was slower, exact opposite of what I’ve otherwise seen. It was not a record keeping error and I don’t know why it happened.
ETA:
With 10.0 gr IMR 4227 at 2.100” OAL. This is .01” longer than first batch.
3 shots from Leonidas AR average 973 FPS. Full bolt lock on all shots.
3 shots from RARR 16” with Griffin Sportsman can average 954 FPS.
ETA:
10.5 gr IMR 4227, OAL 2.080”
3 shots from Leonidas AR average 1041 FPS. Full bolt lock on all shots.
3 shots from RARR 16” with Griffin Sportsman can average 1013 FPS.

Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
Has anyone experienced any feeding issues with Sub-x bullets? I have zero issues feeding my other 190gr Subs. I’ve used different mags, and have checked my feed ramps for edges that may catch the edge of the melplat. The bullet is seated at the cannelure. Still the second bullet will not feed.

Have you tried loading fewer cartridges?revlistelss wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 9:59 am Has anyone experienced any feeding issues with Sub-x bullets? I have zero issues feeding my other 190gr Subs. I would load 3-5 and see what happens. Fat nosed bullets in a fully loaded magazine can create a crossed nose issue and feeding problems. If that solves it, time for different magazines. If it doesn’t then look back at the load.

I loaded just two and had the issue. Then made two more and put them on top of a stack of two otherS with different bullets for a total of 4. Tried this in metal mags and plastic mags of various capacities.

What magazines?
Load data and velocity?
Will it hand cycle a full magazine?

Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
Magpul p-mags 30 & 20 rd
Brownells metal 20rd
11.8gr CFEBlk I even tried bumping up 12 and 12.2gr to see if it was a gassing issue. I run 190gr Match Monster with 11.8gr CFEBlk and 9.4gr h-110 all day long both loads run about 989 from 10.5” barrel with not a hitch. Sings like a sewing machine buried in pillows. I’ve also ran 220gr seirra round nose though all my guns with no feeding issues.
I’m thinking I may have to try some 300blk mags. Slowly cycling the rounds for some reason it looks like there is a bit jostling that happens causing the following round to maybe catch the center of the feed ramps. I’m kinda at the point that I have something that works... why bother other than I’m baffled and have about 80 more tries to figure it out.

Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
CFE creates as many problems as it solves. Low pressure and slow bolt speed may be part of your problem.
I would try the H110 load.
Have never had an issue using Lancer mags. Not a PMag fan at all.

I’ve been trying to find a good use for the pound of CFE just to get it out from my bench. I’ll give the H-110 a shot. I’ve got a couple bottles of 1680, enforcer, and n-110 too. I’ll play with it a bit and report back. Thanks.

Re: Hornady 190 gr Sub-X load data
I shot these today. (Factory loaded). They ran right at 1100 FPS from my 14.5” slide locked every time not a single hitch.
BEST PART... they shot mostly TOUCHING @ 50 yards!!!
Shot two boxes of the Winchester 200 Subs as well these also shot real well and into about 1-1.25”. Also ran at 1100 and locked the bolt. Picked up two boxes at Cabelas Saturday.
Very impressed as subs have NEVER shot well for my guns. This is a new build and it’s working very well. I shot forty supers. My own 110 Varmintgeddons and MP300. They fell inside 1” @50 and on a golf ball out @ 100! VERY PLEASED overall.
