Erratic Trail Boss w/ light subs?
Has anyone else seen erratic behavior with Trail Boss in light subs? I've loaded up several test loads with LC brass, CCI 400, 125 SMK, and 5.6 - 6.0 grains Trail Boss and I'm seeing 5-shot ES of around 400. I know it's not my chrony because I'm shooting at 50 yards and can see (and hear and feel) the difference in velocity from 650 to 1050. Also shooting other subs both before and after that were consistent. I know I've seen posts about Trail Boss and light subs but this is the first time I've tried it.

I'm using that much TB in my 45LC. 225gr cast, 717-740. With 200gr Berry's it's a little more of a spread, 559-606.
On my 300blk; LC brass, WSR, 110gr Berry's, 1.790 OAL, 3.6gr TB, 818-841.
The one thing I noticed about TB is that it likes to bridge in the powder thrower so I check every case before I set the bullet.

Yeah, probably shouldn't need so much for a sub. This is an 11.5" barrel. It's odd, though. More powder isn't increasing velocity, just widening the window. I actually had one 5-shot test some months ago with only 4.7 grains. Velocity of 882 fps and a low ES of 31. A few days ago, 6.0 grains produced an average of 893 fps with and ES of 408. The only difference between the two was the amount of powder and LC brass processed at a different time.

With a 125 bullet loaded that long, you don’t have much in the neck. A crimp could help or a change in primer, if you’re using a magnum try a regular, or the other way around.bangbangping wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2019 9:43 amOAL around 2.278", which has shown good sub accuracy with different powders. I'll try shorter.
Wonder if a crimp would make a difference.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.
