Re: Heavy subs using fast pistol powders
are you searching for target or hunting grade loads?
will you be suppressed? if so how important is "as quiet as possible"
this will help folks narrow things down for you.
you could also search thru the load catalog

Re: Heavy subs using fast pistol powders
Just using as a fun toy, target gun.
AR pistol without gas tube.
Side charging upper.
10.5 " 1/8 barrel
Carbine buffer and spring used to bring new round to chamber.
Recently moved from ILL inois, so I don't have a can yet, maybe soon.

Re: Heavy subs using fast pistol powders
I have been lurking and researching load data, not having much luck.
I want to use Barry's 220 gr plated, MBC 245 gr , and Hornady 208 gr BTHP

I like Vihtavuori N105 for subs ranging from 190 to 265 grains, and since you're not worried about cycling, it's definitely worth a try. It's very quiet and clean burning.
Re: Heavy subs using fast pistol powders
These are out of a 12" CVA Scout pistol. In general, I found Unique and BE-86 to produce similar velocities per grain. Very quiet.
200gr SMK - 6.0gr BE-86 - 2.245" ~ 1000fps
220gr Nosler CC - 8.5gr Lil Gun - 2.17" ~ 1100fps
Slightly lighter
175 SMK - 5.5gr BE-86 - 2.21" ~ 975fps
175 SMK - 8.0gr Lil Gun ~ 1021fps
180gr Remington Core-Lokt - 5.5gr BE-86 ~ 900fps

Re: Heavy subs using fast pistol powders
Tried some hornady 225 bthp's yesterday and got low es and good accuracy using Viht n-105.
Groups at 55 yards were under half inch out of my rem bolt gun.
Should shoot well at 100 yards also.
Will wait for no wind for that.
So far Vhit n-105 has been the best fast powder for me.
It shoots hornady 208 A-maxs moa at 100 yards.

Re: Heavy subs using fast pistol powders
Looks like I need to call my LGS and ask if they have N-105 in stock. Thanks
Re: Heavy subs using fast pistol powders
I use AA#9 or Lil’Gun for most heavy subs.
