22-250 Reloading Components

Post by rlandry6 »

Waiting for a new Rem 700 22-250 to come in so I'm gathering the stuff to load for it. It's a 26" heavy varmint barrel with a 1:14 twist. I'll probably go with Lapua brass since EABCO has it on sale for $59/100.
I'll probably stay with the smaller bullets, 50gr and less. For you guys who have been loading for this caliber for a while, what seems to be the preferred powder and bullet?

I'll have to check my records for the powder, but I have found that anything over 55 gr has a hard time stabilizing with the 1:14" twist. So will the monolithic copper bullets of lighter weight as they are longer. I have been using the 50 gr Sierra Blitz for decades and it is pretty darn effective on ground squirrels and gophers. Of course it's been awhile since I have lived where I could shoot either, but I still have the rifle. It's a Ruger #1V, and it was a wedding gift from my wife.

Rather than list suitable powders, look at data (from Nosler, Sierra, Hornady etc) online. I print out the stuff I want for reference at the bench. My favorites for light bullets(40-50 gr):
Benchmark
Varget
CFE
H380
H4895 and so on..
