3 big "Beware" #1 Turkish 8x57mm military ammo made in Turkey between WW1 and WW2 has been lab tested to over 100.000 PSI #2 USSR stopped making bolt action 7.62R riffles after WW2 and most of the ammo was then loaded to uses in machine guns. Look at any Russian Tank or APC and those are 7.62R machine guns. #3 I worked at a shooting range in the mid-60s and 3 different people blow the pistons under the barrels of Mi carbines. All three were shooting So Korean military FMJ ammo. The US gave So Korea a 30 carbine ammo assemble line to make their own ammo because of all the carbines that were give to them. We pulled bullets from the boxes of all three people and you would not believe difference in loads. 9 different cartridge and nine different size piles of powder.

Possible a 318 bore ? If these are factory and you having trouble on both opening and closing that 323 down to 318might be the problem. I have a 1916 spandau mauser and have no problem with any ammo fac or reloads
