147 fmj bullets.

Post by tomcat11-64 »

Hello All,
I have read this forum and others till I'm blue in the face.
I just want to load some plinking loads with these pulled bullets.
I have IMR 4227 and H110 for powder. Not worried about sub-sonic.
I have a pistol gas 14.5 barreled AR.
Just want some tried and trued loads.
Also is one powder better than the other with this weight bullet?
Thanks~

Since each rifle is different, hard to say what "tried and true" will be for YOUR rifle. Maybe start here and select 150 gr bullets to get a starting range for your ladder testing. Start low and work up watching for pressure signs.

All my 300’s love imr4227 with these. (& 150’s in general)

It’s as good a place as any to start. I read you have some already!

All of my 300 BLK plinking ammo is 147 grn. FMJ over 17 grns. of IMR 4227, I've shot close to 1K rounds of the stuff and had no problems.

In two 16" carbine Blk's with H110, RP 7 1/2 primers, LC converted cases with M80 147 gr FMJ pulls, I load at 16.5 grains of H110. My overall length for the 147's will vary from 2.130"-2.140". I worked up to 16.7 for 2001-2010 fps but backed down to 16.5 that gives about 1960 fps in my 16" barrel. I'd start at 15.5 and work up to 16.5 grains of H110. Shoots better than expected at Blackout distances. Loading with CCI 400 SR primers, 16" velocity with 16.5 grains of H110 shows about 1955 fps. I see a lot of posts loading 16.0-16.5 grains of H110 with M80 147 FMJ's.
