Berrys 220gr Plated TMJ Spirepoint - relaoding quest

Post by Screaminduck »

Greeting,

Im interested in others reload data / testing using Berrys 220gr plated TMJ spirepoint. Ive done my searching through the forum for reloading experience using Berrys 220gr plated TMJ spirepoint rounds and not seen much so its probably a good time to ask. Does anyone have any experience with these rounds?

Berry Mfg has some reload data: (Per their site)
Keep the round under 1300fps
Recommended load data: 11.7gr of Shooter’s World “Blackout” powder with CCI#400 primer.
Recommended OAL 2.110″

Additionally Mr. Revolver Guy at "Day At The Range" did a really nice job documenting how CFEBLK powder and the Berrys 220gr are NOT a good combination per his testing.

Any insight out there on relaoding and Berrys 220gr plated TMJ spirepoint?

Many thanks,

Screaminduck.

I have the same bullets, trying to get a good sub plinking round with Hodgdons cfeblk. Been reading about the powder here, but got the powder before I found this forum. Oh well, will use what I have for now but I follow dellets. Procedures for loading with cfeblk to be safe. Have a load worked up with 11g cfe berry's 220gr coal of 2.210 cci small rfl primers. Shot and functioned good in 10.5 pistol ar. Just got my crony in and will try it out this wkend.

I been doing some testing with different powders with the Berry's 220. Lil Gun, H-110...

My setup is a 7.5 in SBR, Armaspec Captured H2 buffer, and standard gas block, Dead Air Sandman L.

The powder I settled on is Accurate 1680.

I started at 10.7 gr, 10.5, 10.2, 10.0, 9.7, 9.5.

9.5 cycles everything great, and is quiet. I just have to figure our why I have some much port pop, but sounds great in front of the gun.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the recommended COL on Berry's 220 gr is 2.1" and mr.revolverguy was loading them at 2.26". Not sure how much of an impact that had on his results.

I have been trying to find the best loads for my setup, using CFE BLK for reliable rounds, and for quiet loads AA#9 and Lil Gun. Trying to stay right around 1000 FPS with all rounds, have not tried adjusting OAL yet for accuracy.

8" 1/7 twist BA 300 Blackout barrel, Full auto BCG, suppressed with Obsidian 45.

Testing 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit, in Atlanta @ 1050' elevation.

Berry's 220 gr

12.1 gr CFE BLK @ 2.1" OAL = AVG 992 FPS. Reliable cycle and BHO with H2 Armaspec SRS.

Quest for quiet, but still cycle:
8.6 gr AA#9 @ 2.1" OAL = AVG 1012 FPS. Had to run carbine buffer/spring and open gas port to .125" to cycle, no reliable BHO. Using Armaspec SRS Carbine buffer, no reliable cycle.

8.4 gr Lil Gun @ 2.1" OAL = AVG 1017 FPS. Had to run carbine buffer/spring and open gas port to .125" to get BHO. Using Armaspec SRS Carbine buffer, reliable cycle, but no BHO. I may start taking coils off the Armaspec SRS spring, since it is overpowered compared to milspec.

I have seen loads as low as 10.5,11.0 grains of cfeblk oal of 2.070 and 2.080 to get better accuracy. Have heard cfeblk likes small gaps between powder and bullet or resting on powder to slightly compressed. Thanks for the info.
