its just a bit denser, and a touch faster burning - however the YUUUUGE advantage is it burns significantly cleaner as a sub powder than 1680 does. like super clean.
both powders produce the necessary gas volume needed to cycle our actions subsonic unsuppressed quite easily- even in carbine gas 16" barrels.

Re: Finally Entering the Subsonic Realm
This is an absolutely amazing bullet. I've played around with them for a while now, but have never used one for hunting. What's interesting about them is that they're barrier blind. In a soft target (or in my test water jugs) they expand violently. Through brush or dirt, nothing at all.dpete wrote:Take a look at my thread here:

And as for powder, I'm a recent convert to hodgdon' CFE BLK. Would probably overgas a pistol length, but it's been awesome so far, but it's not clean burning. With the maker, I was using 9.5gr of 4227 and a CCI 450 (srm) primer. They're pretty quiet in this load out of a 10.5" with an old YHM phantom.
Re: Finally Entering the Subsonic Realm
I'm running them with 8.4 grains of IMR 4227 and CCI 400 primers. The stuff runs cool and clean and 970-980fps is the sweet spot for my barrel/suppressor combination. 8" barrel with a 10" form 1 suppressor that I can also use on my 308AR. Its about BB gun quiet.Naporter wrote:This is an absolutely amazing bullet. I've played around with them for a while now, but have never used one for hunting. 4227 and RE7 are my go to powders but I will add, if you don't have a chronograph get one. When it comes to playing with subs it will save you lots of time and headaches.

This can't be stressed enough. Not only for performance, but safety.TMD wrote:4227 and RE7 are my go to powders but I will add, if you don't have a chronograph get one. When it comes to playing with subs it will save you lots of time and headaches.
Working with a new powder and bullet this weekend. Worked down to a minimum load that would cycle an 8" pistol gassed AR, without a chronograph. Tried the same load in the Handi rifle. Stuck about 12" down the barrel.
If I had not heard the squib, or checked the barrel it could have been a problem.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.
