Either that or IMR. Whatever is more plentiful and available to you.
You can't beat the mountain, pilgrim. Mountains got its own way.

IMR4198 is super accurate for light 223. Velocity is not spectacular, however. It is stick form, and meters like crap.
I've found the best balance of economy, accuracy, and velocity in 223 is WC844.

Runs 55 grainers ~3300fps - 20'' barrel.Max713 wrote:Any idea what kind of velocity you are seeing?anotherkelley wrote:For Accuracty & Velocity - Compressed loads of Varget with any of Hornady & Nosler's tipped 50-60gr bullets has been hard for me to beat in my ARs.
Shoots extremely well in my bolt-guns and ARs alike. From 1-10 to 1-7 twist the 55gr Nosler BT under a stout charge of varget has been a fantastic combo for me, consistently accurate in all my 223/5.56 guns. Certainly not a fan of it - or any stick powder - for plinking ammo...... but for hunting/varmint loads I've been very pleased with it over the years.

How much powder are you cramming in there on your compressed loads?

27.5-28 grains depending on the brass @ ~2.24'' OAL w/ the Nosler bullets.Max713 wrote:Good info, thank you!anotherkelley wrote:Runs 55 grainers ~3300fps - 20'' barrel.Max713 wrote:

*** That's over max book BTW (for a 223 chamber at least). You know the routine - start low and work on up.
