But as already mentioned there are other powders that may work depending on your set up.

This.TX Sapper wrote:IMO, you should not base the whole rifle on one powder. I do use 1680, but not exclusively. There are other good options, IMR 4227 is my back up and performs VERY well.
I sold my stash of 1680 the very first time I tried IMR4198. Much cleaner and more consistent. Then I tried 4227 and was amazed at the consistency. My ES numbers with 4227 and heavy cast bullets are about 1/3 what I got with 1680.

I was in the same boat as you. What I did was post an add on armslist.com in my area. I put up that I was willing to pay $40 a pound for a1680. Within 12 hours I had 2 replies. Ended up getting 2lbs from a really nice dude for $70bucks. He charged me less than I was offering. There are nice folks out there. If anything the "shortage era" has shown me how nice people can be. This is not the first time I've bought/traded for hard to get gun stuff. Give the add a try! Pass on the "gunny good" will!

I agree with previous posters about the named powders. I have had my top accuracy loadings with 4227 and 296. But excellent results with 1680 as well as 5744. But I have only used 4198 in one loading and will be trying more. There are many good un named powders if your not in a gas gun too!
I have used 1680 for many years in my 357 Maximum's and LOVE it!
I haven't seen any around here for sale in about two years, but I read of it showing up at different locations across the country. I was contacted by another member local to me form another board and I was able to buy a 4# can from him. I was lucky and down to less then a pound! I was totally out of 4227 when I found some at Natchez shooters supply and scored two pounds!
Keep looking and you will find what you need, you may need to pay a lil more and know that haz matt charges are costly. if you can get a couple friends to go in on a order the costs are lower for all.

Cabelas has been having 4227 quite a bit lately. Even found a pound of 1680 there the other day.
4227 works good. Haven't even tried the 1680 so I wouldn't know about it.
Like everyone else said post your location and people will help you out.
If your in NWA I'll sell you a pound of 1680 or some 4227

Makes you wonder if the folks at Accurate realize what's behind the spike of A1680 sales? Prior to the 300BLK, if I'm not mistaken, A1680 was primarily for .357 Magnum and 44 Magnum loads. Typically NOT a high volume shooter caliber. Even at ~11.0gr per load, the 300BLK application IS a high volume shooter. The demand must be 10x what it has been for decades.
