Looking for accurate subsonic factory ammo for my 300BLK **UPDATE ON PAGE 4 WITH REVIEW**

Post by jwise »

SPOILER ALERT: IT'S THE BARREL.

I am headed back to the range this Friday with my 300BLK. It has a 10.5" Ranier Arms barrel, and with 187gr Gemtech ammo, it prints 5-6" groups at 100yds.

I have been looking for other rounds to try, in hopes of finding a factory load that my rifle likes. I have found plenty of supersonic ammo, but I am really looking for subs. I have found a few, but only picked up the three shown below.

I hate to purchase ammo >$30/box. My .308win match ammo is less than that, so I don't want to spend that much on 300BLK. I passed on a couple other boxes I found that exceeded this price point.

I hope I find a load that my rifle likes, because I am not interested in a blunder-buss.

For those of you who are shooting factory loads, what should I be looking for? Which ones should I stay away from?

IMO, check FOG ammo and Ozark Ordinance for prices on bulk subsonic ammo less than $1 per round 50+ rounds per box. Of course there is shipping as well, but you can find decent deals on the subsonics. Cabelas had the Rem 220grs for $17.99 per box first week of this year and their shipping costs to your home are like $5.95 a lot of the time. ammoseek is also another good place to check often and you can refine your search by projectile weight.

I'm not asking where to find CHEAPER ammo, but asking what ammo has been a proven performer regarding ACCURACY.

Your prices are attractive, but I would like more information, and perhaps accuracy results, on your various loads.

I have a ton of remington 220 (green and yellow box) if you want to buy a few boxes to test.

You should average 1 MOA per 100 yards depending on your setup.

The UMC box will be all over the place, almost guaranteed. And expect to hear some sonic cracks too.

I had heard that the Green/Yellow boxed Remington 220gr was terrible, printing all over the place and going supersonic at times. I had not heard the same thing about the Green/White boxed Remington 220gr.

I picked these two up to try as well.

Unfortunately, it has been raining all night long, and I'm sure the range will be under water for the next several days. There goes my range day...

Any actual USERS of any of the above ammo have any experiences to share? I appreciate the vote of confidence from the manufacturer stating an expected performance of 1MOA, but I'd really like to hear actual accounts and see actual targets.

I have never heard the expression "1 MOA per 100 yards". 1 MOA is an angle measurement, REGARDLESS of distance. On the other hand, perhaps you are saying I should expect my rifle to shoot somewhere around 1" at 100yds, 4" at 200yds, and 9" at 300yds, etc...

I doubt this is what you meant. On the other hand, I hesitate to believe a 1MOA accuracy expectation from someone who says "1 MOA per 100 yards."

I don't mean to belittle you, as we all misspeak, but you should know your attempt to communicate an accuracy expectation was not effective.
