They claim 2000 fps for the 150 gr bullet.
I have been only able to get close with w296 but get pressure signs at any loads over max listed and get the following:
Over max listed 5744 19.5 gr = 1880 fps
Max W296 at 17 = 1911 fps stiff
.5 over max at 17.5 of w296 = 1983 fps with pressure
A1680 20 gr = 1848 fps 1.2 gr over max 21 gr = backed out primer w/o pressure
So any ideas what powder these folks may be using to safely push a 150 at 2000+ fps?

I wish they had sample size packaging. Anyone in my area want to swap some powder. I have way to much of some powders i may not be using. A life time supply of American Select. (Eight lbs in one huge keg i got for $80)
They should have a 500 gr samples for $5.
At least my maximum uses most of what i have.
Any more ideas...? Any first hand experience?

Re: What powder for 150 gr - 147 gr bullets to get 2K fps?
I've gotten 1936 fps using 17.8 gr H110 with a 150 gr .30-30 bullet shot from a 10" SSK 300 Whisper chamber. I would think a 16" barrel would get you there.
According to rsilvers, you should get more velocity at the same pressure from a 300BLK chamber as well.
The data I got from SSK with my barrel shows 18.0 gr H110 with a 150 gr bullet giving them 2073 and 2014 fps (different days I assume) shot from an "AR15". It doesn't specify barrel length.

Any 296 loads over 17 gr show pressure in my rifle. 17.5 seems a little to hot giving me 1983 fps average ..Garrett wrote:I've gotten 1936 fps using 17.8 gr H110 with a 150 gr .30-30 bullet shot from a 10" SSK 300 Whisper chamber. I would think a 16" barrel would get you there.

I am going to try Rl-7 at 22 gr (ok pressures) need to Chronograph
Also revisit 1680.. I tried 20.5, 21, 21.5, and 22 gr loads. Pressure was ok in the first two loads then at 21.5 i got a lot LESS pressure, then at 22 gr i got a nice looking primer again. I ran into this before and wanted to verify this again. 22 gr was a full max case full with compression. No more room. Very acceptable load .. I can't wait to see what fps i am getting with this load.
XMP 5744 at 19.5 gr is another load i want to Chronograph.
So i have some irons in the fire.

Re: What powder for 150 gr - 147 gr bullets to get 2K fps?
Use at your own risk! I took this load all the way up to 18 grains because I couldn't get it to cycle. No pressure signs whatsoever until I had a case head separation. Turns out the gas port on my barrel was misaligned. Anything below 15.2 grains was giving me the occasional fail to feed.
My load:
Case: Processed FC '##
Bullet: 147 grain M80 30 cal pull
Primer: Winchester Small Rifle
Powder: Win 296
Trim length: 1.362
COL: 2.08
Notes: Light Lee factory crimp
Average FPS: 1947
ES: 40
Sd: 12
10 round group size is about the size of my medium-ish fist at 100 yards with a 4x scope using my ammo can as a scope.

Re: What powder for 150 gr - 147 gr bullets to get 2K fps?
I would try Lil Gun. In 22 Hornet it gave me more velocity for less pressure. I just started trying it in the 300 BO and was able to easily push a 125 gr bullet over 2300 fps.

I got 1950 fps with 175 grain bullets at 55,000 psi from 16 inch barrels with A1680. I am not sure why you are having problems with 1680.
Re: What powder for 150 gr - 147 gr bullets to get 2K fps?
I have revisited the 1680. While talking with John at AAC i was telling him my evperience with 1680 with 150 gr bullets. What i discovered was a spot where pressures actually dropped then went back up a dip in the graph, repeatable. I needed to go past this point, and keep going up till i get the sweet spot after that dip. He too is planning on using the M2 ball bullet so i will keep him informed with my findings.300Blk wrote:I got 1950 fps with 175 grain bullets at 55,000 psi from 16 inch barrels with A1680. I have some loads pending chrono testing.
My Micro7 is going back, and a new chronograph is inbound so load development is on hold.
