The bad guys don't always wear black hats, the good guys rarely win, and the cavalry never, ever shows up just in the nick of time!

I am starting to think POWER PRO™ 300-MP (MAGNUM PISTOL) powder may be worth taking a long looking at for 125, 130, 147, and maybe up to 152 gr bullets.Maineshootah wrote:Any updates to this thread?

I think LilGun is a hair better than W296/H110, but 300-MP just might be the way to go. A1680 is to slow, and H110/W296 seems a bit to fast. So 300-MP might be ideal for the 130-155 gr range.
I have no experience with it, and would like to try it. If i run into it I will pick up a lb of it to test.

I've used 300-MP in the 110gr to 150gr with good results out of my 9" barrel. I'm liking it so far.JohnInNH wrote:I am starting to think POWER PRO™ 300-MP (MAGNUM PISTOL) powder may be worth taking a long looking at for 125, 130, 147, and maybe up to 152 gr bullets.Maineshootah wrote:Any updates to this thread?

Getting a lot of info. on velocities with different bullets and powders. That info. is interesting, but accuracy is more so.
Anyone willing to report on accuracy with 8-10" barrels? Hopefully somebody has narrowed down the search for a good accurate load for 110 gr., 147 gr., and 220 gr. bullets.

Accuracy will likely vary from barrel to barrel. What works well in my gun may or may not shoot worth a damn in yours.

True, but if you can get good ES and a nice pressure curve you chances of tuning a load to shoot well is fairly easy. OAL changes make a big difference.
IF I get 120 fps ES, SD of 40 what are the chances it will be accurate at 200-300 yards. 2" at 100 seem to be keeping most people happy for the types of shooting most people are doing it is adequate.. Most any powder will do that. I do not see this as a pin point accurate round and may be why Savage dropped it. The 308 is so forgiving.. moving to the BLK has been very frustrating for me. I am not used to such a touchy round. Granted I am shooting 90% subs. Any combo in my 260 shoots 1 moa same with my 308. Any good bullet with any good listed accuracy load will do 1 moa with my 308.
I am not getting that latitude and forgiveness in the BLK. I believe it has to do to case capacity ratio of bore + neck. so a variation may have more of an effect on accuracy. Just my guess.
Seating depth has a huge effect on FPS with subs, and can help reduce the ES by upping the pressure into a more effective burn rate. Very touchy.

Yep. John Noveske says he is now seeing 1 to 1 1/2" groups at 100 subsonic, with Remington factory ammo.
I'm waiting for the Noveske 8.2" barrel, which will come in the newer 1 in 7" twist. Maybe that twist is making the difference.

This thread is great. Finiahed a build for colt lower recently with surplus amm and arms parts. This ss barrel is grouping pnw 155 match, 125 nosler(hunting), and 115 umc rem. factory ammo in .75 inch groups at 100 yards. Lots of talk of inaccurate factory loads. Built this mostly for hunting, but with ammo prices, intend to gear up for handloading. Can't wait to see what i get with handloads versus factory stuff. Maybe my post will inspire some new info. Mostly interested in 150-180 grain supers.

How did you get 19.5grs of 5744 in a 300blk case, let alone put a bullet on top of it?JohnInNH wrote:http://www.right2bearammo.com/shop/cata ... ucts_id/52
They claim 2000 fps for the 150 gr bullet.
I have been only able to get close with w296 but get pressure signs at any loads over max listed and get the following:
Over max listed 5744 19.5 gr = 1880 fps
Max W296 at 17 = 1911 fps stiff
.5 over max at 17.5 of w296 = 1983 fps with pressure
A1680 20 gr = 1848 fps 1.2 gr over max 21 gr = backed out primer w/o pressure
So any ideas what powder these folks may be using to safely push a 150 at 2000+ fps?

20 gr is just under the mouth.. 18 gr is the shoulder This was a VERY old post... FYI. I also said it was an OVER MAX load so should not be replicated.primnumbers wrote: How did you get 19.5grs of 5744 in a 300blk case, let alone put a bullet on top of it?
I don't have any notes for this. It was my early testing using M2 Ball pulled bullets which do not seat very deeply and are bolt/single shot loads unless you modify the mags for an AR. It was a load I did not save since I rejected it so no way for me to see if it was a typo.
18.5 gr I can easily seat an M2 Ball bullet. It may be a crunch compressed load with 19.5 but I'm not going to try it just to see if it is doable since it is an over max load. LilGun with 150 gr/147's would be my choice now that I have shot the BLK for longer.
