Yep... I thought a <4 gr of 231 load with a 168 in my BLK would be fairly quiet... LOL nope.. (ears ringing)

Also a 9" 4.2 gr (American Select) 240 gr 44 spl load is loud as well w/o a silencer.

Do subs have less muzzle blast even if they are not noticeably quieter? I assume this to be the case but not sure.

For today, the Remington AccuTip would be the best ammo.
I thought the AA Pinkies was the best load in lieu of the Barnes?!

Pink Tips were/are great, but they are sold out.

The 220gr SMK will not expand.

This is direct from Midway's for the Cor-Bon 220 subs and 125 supers:

Cor-Bon uses flash-suppressed powder along with skived bullets with scored jackets to offer high-velocity defense loads that expand quickly with high weight retention and without the fear of over-penetration. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases.

Guess it's either a generic description or intentionally false advertising. Not cool either way if you were expecting an expanding subsonic round for HD. Somebody should call them on it...

I think we just all know they are standard Sierra 220s and won't expand.

Are there any issues with the Vmax's due to the fact they do not have a cannelure? I had some concerns with set back due to the relatively low powder densities and short length of the bullets. If I loaded this round I would still crimp. Anyone have this issue?

You could use a Lee factory crimp die.
