I got some nice weather today, and did some testing with Hornady's new 190 gr. Sub-x. This was chrono test, along with a 75 yd group and gel test at two different speeds.

5 shot avg.
1066 fps/ es-32/ sd-12

5 shot group at 75 yds. Fliers are 1st and 5th shots :x (go figure)

Retained weight. Impact at 1085 fps:

To get the lower speeds, I pulled a few and reloaded with VV N110. This was through my R700 16" bbl.
Not sure what powder they used, but it's 10.8 gr of something louder than N110 or N120.

Thanks for the info. I shot some out of my 16 and 10 inch barrel. Using my labradar, had it set on rifle. Recorded high. Talked to labradar folks and guess I was supposed to use pistol. Will be going back out. Would not cycle with the 16 inch but cycled fine on my 10 inch. Was out weeks before shooting 180 gr pills to adjust my gas block to get ready for these. Will be going back out to chrono and site in. What do you folks shooting subs zero at? Was thinking 50 yards. My first time working with subs.

Thanks for the info.

What are you using for gel? Clear Ballistics or organic?

Clear Ballistic. I don't have the patience for the organic

When you pulled the bullet with 10.8 grains of whatever powder in the case how much air space do you figure was in the case with that 190 grain bulet.

Just curious.

Not much, considering length of bullet. I don't think it was compressed, either. I'm hoping to shoot a couple in the dark this weekend. Hornady is claiming low muzzle flash with these. Also, I recently purchased a gen. 3 PVS-14 to go on my 10" pistol, so I want to give that a whirl in the dark, as well

I was literally about to hit the order button on some Lehigh Maximum Expansion bullets, but I just placed an order for 5 boxes of the Sub-X instead. I hope they perform well with the cost of the Sub-X at less than half the cost of the Maximum Expansions. I ordered the new RARR and it should be delivered today. I'm interested to see how well the new RARR feeds with AR mags and if certain ammo has feeding issues. Unfortunately I will not be home until next week... I've been shooting 300BLK for seven years but this will be my first bolt action in 300BLK. Should be fun doing load development on a new gun.

Where did you find a RARR with the AR magazine? Been looking for one.
