Recipe for Speer 125gr TNT

Post by Dreamsinger » Sat Aug 17, 2019 12:06 pm

I had been spoiled with 17gr VV N110 under the 125gr TNT's @ 2.1" OAL that I favor but of late I cant find the powder at any LGS within 100 miles. Load data is sparse, I got this load by word of mouth. I was getting very tight groups with single digit SD's shot from an 8.5" pistol. Anybody have a load they like with the TNT's that they'd care to share?

See if you can find any H110 or the near equivalent W296.

Then see if you can safely approach 18-19.0 grains from a good safe distance below that USING a long bullet seating depth like what you’re currently using.

This is my favorite blackout bullet. My AR load is 19.0 at that bullet depth.

Be careful and good shooting.

Guess no one else likes that bullet around here? I just ordered 2000 more for 13.5 cents each delivered.

It’s my preference for a couple of different calibers.

I've probably loaded 5 times as many tnts for my blackouts as any other bullet most likely. I found my load with h110 in the same range you recommended and load it subsonic with trailboss as well. If I had to chose just one bullet for this cartridge, which would be tuff since variety is what makes this cartridge so awesome, the 125tnt would be it.

my load for the 125 gr. TNT is 18.3 grs. of H-110. in my opinion, the TNT is the best value in a hunting/plinking bullet suitable for the 300 Black Out . (super sonic)

I also settled on the 18.3 grains of H110 under the 125 TNT. Somewhere between 18.3 and 18.6 just plain works. I have also had good results with Alliant 300 MP. The 125 soft points from Sierra(#2120) are also nicely accurate. I scored a good quantity of RP 125 gr SP at a local shop that was selling off all manner of reloading stuff from a estate sale. The 18.3 gr H110 was the ticket there as well. :P

Isn't it interesting that most 125 grain projectiles work best at around 2.1 + or- .001 either way?
I think, in a correctly chambered barrel, this has proven time and again to be the sweet spot for multiple 125 grain bullets with a relatively normal ogive. I have found the 125 SMK (# 2121) to be the most forgiving and accurate of all 125 gr. bullets. Still, I load them around 2.11 something for the sweet spot.
I used those to do this in the dime challenge a while back.

I load my 125 tnts to 2.075..most accurate loads for me are
300-MP 17.7 grs
H110 18.1 grs
lil gun 18.2 grs
N110 17.0 grs
all with rem 71/2 primers

Lil gun runs hot and has low temp issues, 300MP is my favorite.

I have been using 18.2 gr of H110 and 2.100" OAL for a long time. I get 2250 fps from a 16" CMMG. As always you would want to work up to that. I have a KAK pistol barrel that is a little snug and this load is a tad hot for it.

I see others using much the same load.

Nice to see some commonality in loads that work for many too.
