Hello everyone,
Measured the throat on my RARR in 300 BO today. I am having a terrible time getting Hornady 125gr SST to shoot well.
Wondering if the throat of my rifle is too long - using a sized case and the Hornady 125gr SST the COAL is 2.390". Using a Hornady comparator it comes out to be 1.660" to the lands.
Does this sound like the throat is too long?
RARR - does this sound right?

That's pretty normal.
You can compare that to specs here, basically minimum is 1.565:

Thanks for the confirmation. It would seem that a chamber like that would make it difficult to get any of the 110 and 125 range bullets to shoot well.

Most factory bolt guns are made that way. Remington 700's you can not load any where near the lands.

It will be impossible to get the round loaded long enough for a short jump but accuracy is still attainable with 110's, I have had success with the nosler varmageddon 110's. The Barnes tac-tx have been good aswell and are able to be loaded with a longer CBTO.rookie07 wrote:Thanks for the confirmation. Try flat based bullets, inside of 300 yards (the true max effective range of the BlkOut) they will perform exactly the same as similar weight boat tail bullets on live targets. The slight increase in bearing area will help with accuracy issues.

You can if you cut your brass at full length.SwampDog_13 wrote:It will be impossible to get the round loaded long enough for a short jump but accuracy is still attainable with 110's, I have had success with the nosler varmageddon 110's. I have ran both 110 Hornady and Nosler bullets with .080-.100 in the case with a good crimp. They run, feed and shoot fine in an AR.

I stand corrected, and informed. I've never loaded anything with that little of bullet in the case. Thanks a lot dellet, now I get to get back to the bench for more varmageddon workups in this heat.dellet wrote:You can if you cut your brass at full length.SwampDog_13 wrote:It will be impossible to get the round loaded long enough for a short jump but accuracy is still attainable with 110's, I have had success with the nosler varmageddon 110's. Re: RARR - does this sound right?
I am giving up on Hornady 125gr SST bullets for now. I have loaded them with H110 and W296 with wolf and remington primers. Started at 17 and went all the way up to 18.6 with H110. Seated them deep, seated them as long as I could and several places in between.
They are shooting terrible for me. 1.5" to 2" for 3 shots at 100. I gave up on 5 shots 2 days ago.
I wouldn't expect more from them if I hadn't seen what the gun can do with Lil Gun and Nosler 125gr BT and Barnes 110 gr TAC-TX.
Back to Lil Gun and Barnes for now. I hate to give up on the SST bullets because they are more economical, but 1.5" at 100 isn't what I am willing to accept.
