I have to ask why just the 300? The 223 has the same bolt and no one is Bitchin about it.(that I could see)


And for the best results doesn't the bolt have to be fitted to the rifle?

Perhaps in this day of CNCs holding to tenths of a thousandth's it isn't necessary any more .

Parts should not have to be fitted. Any parts should work in any gun of the same model. Engineering drawings gave min/max limits to that mating parts can always fit. The ability to make more precise parts doesn't change that - it just lowers the scrap rate (fewer out of spec parts).

Speaking of parts and specs...

My Ruger American 300BLK is finally due to be delivered today. I want to know the bbl material so I can add it to my long term Blackout bbl life testing regimen. Ruger advertises CHF. I asked Ruger what the bbl steel is and has it be nitrided or chrome lined. The answer was "I don't have that information". I've now written them again. Maybe I'll get a different person who will find out for me. If not, I'll write a letter to their CEO.

Anyone know the bbl steel (and treatment, if any) Ruger uses in their American series? I suspect plain 4140 due to the lower cost. I suspect no chrome lining or nitriding, otherwise they'd advertise it as a feature.

Smaller companies have gladly given me the info I asked for or advertised it up front, but the bigger the company, the harder to get such info. For example, the owner of Robinson Arms emailed me himself, gave me the bbl specs, and even told me about a bbl wear test they had done on bbl steel/treatment and wants to know my results with my Robinson Arms Blackout bbl (now that's service!).

Thanks for any info one can provide. I know the Blackout is not considered a "bbl burner outer", but I've been doing the testing so long, I will not stop.

Wow. Got a reply from a Ruger American design engineer.

Bbl is cold hammer forged and made with 4140 steel. He also asked for my bbl wear results overview to see how it compares to Ruger's. I suspect I will hear more from him.

I finally found one locally and had to jump on it! So far I'm quite impressed, it sounds great with my sub loads and Saker 762. I would like to put a Boyd's stock on it but they don't have one specifically for the Ranch, will the predator work for it? I can't seem to find any reference to this.

We just got the short LOP version in 300. Now we are trying to decide on the suppressor.
We have an SDN6 for the AAC 9" but that is the only one we are familiar with.

My son asks me about the Silencerco Omega 7.62 but I am not familiar with it.

Being a bolt gun, we are going to chase "cat sneeze" quiet this time with reloads.

Can I hear from some happy customers that might recommend a can for the RARR?
