Ruger 300blk

Post by blkhog »

After months of looking for all the pieces then waiting to get everything put together, I finally picked up my 300blk bolt gun.
I had this built on a ruger m77 ss originally in 223,with a mcGowen 1:8 16" barrel threaded 5/8 x 24.
Of course I get the notice that it's ready just as I go back to work and I'll be on call for the next 7 days. And it's been pouring rain. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot soon and update. I really want to get out to the farm and shoot a hog!
A couple quick shots off the deck with no optics showed me perfect feeding, extraction,AND EJECTION! now if it shoots well I may have a stephens 200 for sale.

Congratulations!

You're the first I've heard to use a M77 for a re-barrel to 300 Blackout. Might I ask why you haven't posted some pics?

Sorry guys. My partner is on vacation this week so I'm working all day and on call every night. I'll get some pics and an update as soon as I can.

Having a little trouble posting pics, these will have to do for now.
Here is a pic of the rifle, and a closeup of extraction. The case is held just as I hoped and can be plucked or ejected easily.
Feeding is trouble free. Now I just have to figure out what she likes to shoot!

Been kicking doing a build on a Ruger. Seems like it would be the best action for reliable feeding and ejection.

^^^ Without a doubt, the best bolt action I've tried in the 300 Blackout has been the Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard. Reliable feeding and ejection from the first round on. No dicking around with ejectors or ball bearings common to other designs.

While I've never tried a M77 before, it appears to work decently based on the observations of the OP. I think the M77 action is overly big and heavy for such a small cartridge though. Whatever floats your boat.

Did something similar with a 77 MKII in 6.8spc. Turned out great, I am putting together a Tikka T3 in 300AAC Blackout now.
