RARR now available with AR Magazine

Post by 2manyToys »

As Henry Porter pointed out in the RARR magazine options thread, Ruger has released a version of the rifle that accepts AR magazines. Now, for those of us with the rotary magazine versions, I wonder if this might be a bolt on retrofit.

I emailed Ruger in regard to any potential retro fit stock or otherwise and the simple answer is NO. A close look at the new model will make the reason clear. Disappointed, I have 2 of the RARR and asked why this was not done right in the first place. I indicated one of my mags was a shoddy POS and the reply email and contact info indicating they will happily replace the mag. My eye has been on a RAP or two, I will now wait to see what they do with 5.56 and .308 models of the Predator.

LGS wants $440 for it. Will order it in the next month or so and report back.

Dissapointing it will not retrofit...

I dearly love my 300 RARR so its not getting sold, but i WAS planning on a MAG-PUL stock... After a few magazines, at a cost nearly as much as the rifle.

maybe I love it as is and buy a second gun... Nearly same $$ and as the mentality goes, one is none, two is one...

I have time to think...and other firearms I would like first.

A RARR in 450 and a G24 are near the top of that list.

That's a bummer. Now that there's a factory RARR that accepts AR mags, there won't be much market for somebody to develop a better magazine or retrofit kit.

The CDI bottom metal is $209. They'll inlet your stock for the cost of return shipping & insurance. Would you do this to a factory Ruger stock? Or buy a nicer one?

Magpul's MAG-931 stock for the Ruger American is now available for $255 retail. Has a full length bedding block so probably a little stiffer than the Ruger stock. Includes a mag but not the one for 300 Blackout.

If I had to have the factory Ruger with detachable mags, I'd sell off my current rifle at a bit of a loss and go buy the new one. That's likely the cheapest route but you would still have a factory stock that isn't very stiff. Plus the annoyance of re-mounting and zeroing the scope.

I'm leaning towards the Magpul, myself. Maybe prices will come down after it's been out awhile.
