Remington Model 7 extractor.

Post by tomcat11-64 »

Well bought a Remington Model 7 with 300 Blackout barrel.
The extraction issue is depressing me.
Anybody had a aftermarket extractor put on their bolt, Sako-M16 style?
Did it help? Who did it?

What type of issue are you having?

Is this a conversion or is this the AAC Micro 7 built on the model 7 action?
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.

Two rings of steel? Don't do it; the extractor conversions are bad news. The Remington bolt actions are extremely strong and have excellent gas handling features, but when you machine the bolt for an external extractor, you compromise that and leave a path for gas right back into the shooter's face in the event of a case head failure.

It was a AAC 300 Blackout receiver-bolt with a AAC barrel build up using all Remington parts.
It just lays the fired case on top of the next round.

If it pulls the fired case or live round out of the chamber, it sounds like the extractor is working. More likely that the ejector is not pushing the case out.

If it was a build, not a factory rifle, it's possible that there was a problem with putting the ejector back in after the headspace was checked.

If you remove the bolt and take a case, hook the rim under the extractor and lever it against the ejector, is the good spring tension and the case stays on the bolt head as long as you hold pressure?
or does it slip off the extractor?

If it stays hooked on the extractor and you let it go, does it just drop off or does it flip out like you would expect when installed?

If this action was one of the Blems sold a while back, it's possible that the wrong ejector or spring was installed. There is a difference between a 223 and the 300 Blackout. The Blackout actually used the bolt and components for a 17 Fireball.

I put in a sako type extractor for the 700 I built in blackout, probably 9 years ago. Solved all of my ejection issues.

try ejecting a case slow, if the case is ejecting into the front, inside of the receiver then this is your issue.

I have seen several Remington extractors fail, at the most inopportune moments. Get an M-16 or Sako extractor installed, and don't buy into the three rings of steel BS. If you can shoot that action with a 300RUM or 338 Lapua, the rings of steel don't matter for the small part of the bolt face that is lost with the extractor cutout. If it's good enough for Savage, Tika, Blaser, Mauser, Winchester, Sako, Sauer, and multiple others, it's good enough for Remington.

I agree with F224, the Sako extractor upgrade is a standard for Remington bolts.

Any recommendations on where to send my bolt to get it converted?
