Remington Micro 7 scope base

Post by tomcat11-64 »

Just bought a Micro 7 and want to do away with the rail.
Does anyone make scope mounts with 8-40 screws for this?
Or where could I get some Leupold's convereted to 8-40 screws?
Thanks~

Any well supplied local gun store with decent customer service should be able to "convert" Leupold bases and supply the screws while doing the mount for you. All that needs to be done is drill out the hole and select the correct style screw head and length.

I might know someone willing to do it in exchange for the rail :P

Yes, any decent store would do it. I have a DNZ one piece, 1 inch mount modified for the AAC 7 action. If dellet needs the rail, and you want this, y'all work it out between you and PM me your address. I like to have dellet in my debt and owe him a few

I built a Micro 7 from parts, and I modified Leupold bases to fit the 8-32 screws, but be warned, it isn't just a matter of drilling out the holes to fit the #8 screw shanks. The socket heads of the 8-32 scope base screws are too large for the counterbores in the scope bases, so they will also need to be bored out larger. Brownells sells a kit for this, but due to the geometry of the bases, some Dremel work was still involved because the piloted counterbore could not be used in the aft hole of the rear base.

Whatever shithead at Remington and/or AAC who decided to use #8 screws in these actions instead of the standard, and perfectly adequate #6 screws, can never be sufficiently cursed.

It turned out OK in the end.
