300 aac barrel help

Post by mww460 »

Hello everyone, I am new to the site. I have been reloading and shoooting 223 for sometime. I have been reading and researching the 300 aac for a couple weeks now and looking to build my first 300 upper. My build is for more hunting/target shooting and will shoot 99% supersonic ammo.

I am looking for a medium to heavy profile 16-18 inch barrel form my build. So far I have found

-Wilson Combat has a Match Grade 16 and 18 inch with "Recon Tactical" profile for 249.

-Ar Stoner has a 16 inch medium profile stainless for 219.

Is there any other medium-heavy barrels in that price range im missing that I sould be looking at?

Thanks for any help Michael

I ordered the 16" Wilson from Midway this last weekend. Its still in the mail so I can give you any feedback. However the below coupon codes may save you a few bucks if ordering from Midway. I think they expire 11-30.

AR151125 will save you 25 off 200
AR151135 will save you 35 off 300

I would go with the Wilson over the AR Stoner as I have read of a lot of issues with the AR stoner barrels.

I built mine with an AR stoner ultra lite contour. 1:8 16". Only issue I had was the gas port area of the barrel was .78 or so. I sanded it down by hand until my gas block slid on. Disappointing, but not a game ender.

AS far as feed and function, all sub sonic, no suppresor. No issues. I only have about 100 rounds thru it.

Thanks everyone. Right now im leaning towards the 18" Wilson combat. The only thing is its on backorder so no telling how long it will take to get in.

I have the Med Contour AR Stoner and its a shooter. Sub MOA on first trip to the range without working up a load yet... There are pics of it and the results in my "not so black" build thread

Awesome build thread, just what I was looking for. My main purpose of this build almost matches your exactly. I have several bolt guns in 7mm08, 7mm rem mag, and 300 win mag, but want something different. I have always wanted an AR platform for deer hunting but never could bring myself to spend the money on a ar-10 or something similar. I almost had my mind set on the wilson barrel but after reading your thread its definitely still up in the air between the two.

I have built over ten ar's with ar stoner lite contour and medium. All shoot subs and supers sub moa. If it means I can save 200 bucks and spend 20 minutes for sometimes having to enlarge gas port or do a little sanding to make it run perfect, then maybe I have too much time on my hands...

Ar stoner barrels are gtg. Proceed with confidence
