I ordered one last week with a stainless barrel for $335 plus shipping. It arrived yesterday. Out of the box it looked good. M4 ramps nicely done. Front sight looked straight.
I had a chance to put a few rounds through it this morning. I slapped on an Aimpont then headed for the desert. Loads were a few handloads and some factory AAA pink tip.
I dialed the Aimpoint in with a few rounds, shot a few at 50 yds then 100 yds.
Functioning was 100% on a carbine lower with H buffer. Everything loaded and functioned fine through a vintage USGI 20rd mag. Bolt locked back no problem on an empty mag. I was not looking for accuracy but was pleasently surprised by how nice it shot. I'll have to put a scope on it to see what it will do.
So far I can recommend the DSArms upper for anybody looking to get into the caliber.

cb I have the same upper. Like you I have been impressed. What type of handloads were you running thru it?
Thanks

Re: Initial thoughts/shooting of the DSArms 300 Blackout upp
Just so happens I had it out today and chronographed some loads.
First was the AAA factory 125 grain pink tip round.
Avg velocity 2256 fps
Next was 125 gr Nosler BT green tip
17.5 gr H110/W296
CCI 400 primer
OAL 2.130"
Avg velocity 2140 fps. This also shot my best group of 1" at 110 yards.
Last load was 125 gr Speer TNT HP
17.5 gr H110/W296
CCI 400 primer
OAL 2.010"
Avg velocity 2145 fps.
My goal is an accurate 125 gr load going 2300 fps. I'm going to try Lil Gun powder next.

Re: Initial thoughts/shooting of the DSArms 300 Blackout upp
Do you think you will get there? The max charge is 18.0 grains for lil-gun right?
Right now I have been loading 147 fmj's due to the fact I have tons of them on hand and they have made a very inexpensive range round. I am very interesting in working up a 110 or 125 load though.

Re: Initial thoughts/shooting of the DSArms 300 Blackout upp
Made it today;
125 gr Speer TNT HP
18 gr Lil Gun
CCI 400 primer
OAL 2.010
Avg fps 2302
18.5 gr Lil Gun got me 2335 fps but was starting to show signs of pressure.
I also loaded some Nosler 125 gr BT green tip at 2.130 OAL. Those gave me 2287 fps with 18 gr of Lil Gun. A very close match for the Atlantic Arms factory pink tip load.
If it shoots straight it looks like Lil Gun will be my powder for supersonic loads.

Re: Initial thoughts/shooting of the DSArms 300 Blackout upp
Thanks for the info 2300 with a 125gr thats like 30/30 or better performance with much better bullet design.
I wonder just how many deer have been culled with the 30/30 in the last 100 years and just how many will be culled with the 300BLK in the next 100 years.
This round has a great future many thanks to JD for the baby steps and Robert for the steps to get the round perfected and into main stream.
We are expanding deeper into the 300BLK after the great performance we have seen with this round.

Re: Initial thoughts/shooting of the DSArms 300 Blackout upp
dsa please sell your upper with the option of no threading, or offer alternate threading. I'd like to buy one of your uppers, but need an alternate thread.
Re: Initial thoughts/shooting of the DSArms 300 Blackout upp
we will not be offering other threads, but may offer no thread target muzzle uppers in 2012
thanks

Good load cb. I may have to pick up a pound of Lil-gun and try it out.

Re: Initial thoughts/shooting of the DSArms 300 Blackout upp
Getting ready to order one of these from DSArms. Did you order their bolt or use your own from another AR upper?? Also, sounds like standard AR mags will work. A buddy didn't know if they would work or not. Glad to hear they do. I was concerned about the twist. I thought most 30 caliber were 1 in 10. Guess the 1 in 8 is fine for this caliber in that it shoots a lighter bullet. Thanks for the info.
