I just bought a 300 blk upper with a 1/7 twist 8 in. barrel
What would be the heaviest bullet it can fire 'straight' past 30 yards

Re: Bullet weight vs. 1/7 twist 8 in. barrel
I just shot 208gr pills straight at 50yards last night, shot at subsonic speeds.
I would think you could go even heavier and further than that, that is just what I was shooting last night.

The heaviest bullet I know of on the commercial market is 265 grains, no problem.
The longest bullet I know of is a Berger 230 at 1.640" long. This what you need to worry about more than weight. The longer the bullet is, the faster it needs to spin to stabilize.
1/7 works fine for anything currently on the market.
As far as either bullet to shooting straight, that's all on you. As long as the barrel isn't bent it will go straight.
Are you in this picture?
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.
Re: Bullet weight vs. 1/7 twist 8 in. barrel
My routine sub-sonic plinker bullets are the 220 gr Leatherheads from a vendor here or the 220 gr Sierra HPBT. I have an 8" 1/7 twist SBR I shoot suppressed with no problems. You probably need to check you rifle/pistol for stability without a can first using your powder of choice and make sure the barrel is concentric with the can.
I don't use a can for supers. Those are 110 gr Speer "Hot Core" soft point.

That was probably a rainy afternoon and Mom needed a break from me and my brother.Bob the nailer wrote: Blaaaahhaaa I just fell off the couch. ----- dellet

Re: Bullet weight vs. 1/7 twist 8 in. barrel
Not all bullets are created equal. Shooting supers or suppressed? You will want your bullet to expand on target. Some bullets won’t expand below 1600 fps. If your shooting subs, you want a bullet to expand below 1000 fps. The new Hornady 190 sub expands down to 800 fps.T55A5 wrote:I just bought a 300 blk upper with a 1/7 twist 8 in. barrel

Re: Bullet weight vs. 1/7 twist 8 in. barrel
ACME Bullet Company makes a 265 grain bullet that will work with 7 and 8 twist barrels at typical subsonic velocities.
It was designed from the ground up as a 300 Blackout bullet instead of a bullet designed for something else that happens to work with the Blackout. And because it was designed for the caliber the case capacity and fill rates have been optimized for powders and charge weights typically used in the Blackout. Case fill is critical for accuracy and these ensure a proper case fill, increasing accuracy potential.
Even though they are heavier than anything else typically used in the 300 Blackout those bullets are more stable than a typical 200 grain bullet at the same velocity. These are also stable in 8 twist barrels at subsonic velocities. They can even be used in 10 twist barrels with velocities above 1,100 fps.
Verify they are stable in YOUR barrel before shooting through a silencer because all barrels are different.
Use a starting load of 9.5 grains of IMR 4227 at an OAL of 2.10”. Then go up or down from there to get to the velocity you want.
