Failed buffer

Post by popper »

Buffer (no name) has ~ 300 rnds through it, AR pistol with supers. Well range day didn't go good today. Replace batterys in sight, shot some more and - bolt won't go back very far. Buffer has screwed in plastic buffer stop that came unscrewed. Screwed it back in a did a few more shots. Sure the threads are stripped on the plastic - don't see any other damage. IIRC, 3 weights & 1 shim but it still rattles after re-assembly. It's a cheap build used for pig gun so no fancy stuff. Aren't most buffers pinned?

It's supposed to rattle.

Should have 3 weighs and 2 shims that move (rattle) when you shake it.

Ahh, only one shim. Carbine weight. Nylon buffer just has threads stripped any second source for it?

Probably easier to buy a new buffer, and a better built one while you are at it.

If youre running a pistol with only supers, you may want to replace it with an H2 weight buffer. If youre going to be buying a nee buffer anyways 8)

As said, they do rattle, and should be pinned.
When those totally ignorant of firearms make laws, you end up with totally ignorant firearm laws.

The plastic part should be pinned. If not replace it.

It probably doesn’t have threads and is just pressed in, like most cheap buffers.

KAK makes a nice configurable buffer. Got one and like it.
