Their requirements list basically describe 300 BLK. If this isn't the perfect application for BLK then I dunno what is.

Yes, it certainly is...rimshaker wrote:Their requirements list basically describe 300 BLK. If this isn't the perfect application for BLK then I dunno what is.
But the solicitation is very specific and states 5.56 NATO with a 1:7, 10"-12" barrel.
What they are specifically asking for is:
HK416 A5
or
MK18
or
FN SCAR® MK 16 CQC
or
TROY M7A1 PDW 5.56
or
LWRC IC PDW

The KAC SR-16 CQB would also qualify.
Re: Secret Service is shopping for new guns
The Secret Service isn't a huge group, certainly small enough not to REQUIRE a 5.56 rifle. I'm a huge fan of 5.56 for cost, bullet selection for a little further distance, and commonality. But I can't think of a better caliber (cartridge) than a BLK for their applications from VIP protection with an SBR to a threat inside practical use of a precision bolt gun.
We've said it a million times - subs and supers that expand from an SBR with very little loss in velocity over the 16" or extreme velocity loss which means significant performance reduction in SBR 5.56 rifles.

FNH SCAR 16 10.5" but it might be too big.
BCM 300 Blackout would fit requirements especially since Border Patrol in Arizona is using them. But who knows if they have the ability to meet that order size.
IWI X-95 may not be reliable enough.
Sig Sauer MCX 9" 300 blackout might have the clout. This is my personal choice because of the skeletonized colapsable stock would be ideal for vehicle use.
Secret Service is known for going as compact as possible and using handgun chambered pistol and SBRs to do it. They haven't used a traditional AR platform and I doubt they will start now.
They won't use a 6.8 nor a .308 platform is my guess.

It would be less disrespectful to burn the flag than to put a thin blue line through the middle of it.
