16" barrel w/ Pistol length gas

Post by BlogSarge »

My 16" Wilson barrel with carbine gas doesn't like subs. Anyone know a good 16" barrel with pistol gas?

(Yeah, Noveske, but too may $$ for me right now!)

Could you open the gas port up some and see if it helps? What is the gas port size right now? Do a search, or someone will chime in, but I believe people have opened the port hole to as big as .120. Someone please correct me on that number if it is wrong.

Might be the way to go. Or just suck it up and buy the Noveske!

How did it run with supers? Have you talked to Wilson before opening up the port?! That is where I would start.

Both my 8" CMMG and 16" WIlson run well with supers. I agree with your suggestion about talking with Wilson and CMMG first. Thanks

Knowing the rest of the build is critical. There is no reason for the 16 inch carbine gassed barrel to not run the way it is.

The carbine gassed systems do not run all the subs that a pistol system can run, but all the factory loads should run an well as most handloads.

What loads are you running?
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.

I've got a 16" CMMG with a pistol port and it runs everything. Even non-suppressed subs with IMR 4227, and my 16" CMMG with carbine port does not like subs with 4227.

Sounds like your gas port is too small or you don't have a carbine buffer.

Same as mine, glad I picked it up on clearance before it was discontinued!

I've mostly been shooting Dallas Reloads 220gr subs. I'll stock up on some factory loads to verify. And I'll double check the buffer and spring to be sure they are carbine.

Thanks again for the input
