300 14.5 with a carbine gas system

Rainier arms 14.5" barrels for the 300 blk are all carbine gas systems.

I recently cut down a Noveske 16" carbine gas to 14.5". Subs without a can wouldn't run. I didn't up the gas port, it was less than .125", as the owner didn't care about subs w/o a can and didn't want harder cycling with supers.

I have a KAC MRE that I was planning on doing a 5.56 build but I've got 5 of them and would like an iron sighted 300 BLK rifle.

I like the look of the 14.5 pinned instead of 16 if I can get one.

Who makes a 14.5" carbine gas 300 BLK. I don't need subs to cycle without a can and will probably be a super sonic shooting rifle 99% of the time.

On a side note, I have a 16" with carbine length gas and it doesn't cycle heavy unsuppressed subsonics. Regular gas block. I don't care that much as I plan to just shoot supers but it would have been nice to run anything. It'll cycle some 200gr but not 220gr.

That sounds like a load issue more than a rifle issue, in theory the 220 should be easier to cycle. This is why carbine gas systems got a bad reputation. When often it was the ammo.

Hmm, I'll keep an open mind then and try some other sub ammo. I've been trying quite a few brands of ammo though mostly supers. I don't understand how that's possible though being that supers travel much faster, meaning that it's a more powerful explosion with more power to cycle. What am I missing?

A couple things, attention to detail being one.

Supers are generally never a problem with factory ammo. Subs often can be. Without the details of how the rifle is assembled, nothing is for certain. But........

With subs, the heavier the bullet, the more likely it is to cycle unsuppressed. You said your rifle will cycle 200 grain, but not 220, my reply of there is a good chance it’s more likely the ammo than the rifle, reflects that.

It would also be helpful to know what they ammo is the does/does not work. There is plenty of crap ammo out there, that people blame the rifle or operating system for.
