I'm using Forster dies bought off of the AAC website. Once-Shot case lube from spray can.

uh, you need to cut off the .223 case below the shoulder first. then run it thru the sizing die. Have you looked up how to resize the brass first?

some guys do it that way. but you will find a vast majority will do it the way most of us here do it, because of the problem that you have run into.

He says he only splits a few cases. that is good for him. I can tell you that almost every time I have tried it that way I split the brass. unless I size it twice, first opening up the neck with a .270 sizer and then with the .308 sizer.

see how the brass slipped as he was having to trim so much off with the trimmer. that is another reason. he has to trim way to much for what the Lee trimmer was designed for, and has to put a lot of pressure on it to get rid of the extra case.

cutting off the shoulder and then sizing and then trimming works pretty well and is pretty straight forward.

you can keep trying to do it that way and you will continue to have the results you are having.

He is using Hornady dies, the expander is shaped better to not crush the brass.

I would suggest dumping the idea of using the Lee trimmer and invest in a WFT trimmer Life will be better, LOL
