went shooting yesterday 300 and 45 ACP
we catch the brass on a tarp and then police the ground around the tarp
any brass larger than 22LR goes on the tarp and into the brass bag
found a bunch of 30-06 and the middle piece of brass headstamped 308
I put a 308 from the brass collection on the left to compare
and no, I have neither a 30-06 nor a 308!

Yes, I am a Baptist, and yes I carry a gun. You might think I carry a gun because I don't trust God. Well you would be wrong. I have complete faith in my Lord. It is mankind I have no trust in
Re: funny range pickup
wonder if it ringed the barrel?

Re: funny range pickup
I'm glad you know you can do that in a pinch. Wonder how accurate it it would be being that it's about 3/8 inch too short for the chamber?

I would imagine it would suck.
You can't beat the mountain, pilgrim. Mountains got its own way.
Re: funny range pickup
in theory, the bullet leaves the unsupported case neck and hits the lands and pauses
then the pressure wave hits the bullet
resulting in a ring in the barrel or chamber
similar to trying to shoot a squib load out of a pistol barrel

It's amazing what some people will do when it comes to mismatching ammo.
I kicked a couple guys off a range once because I lucked out and overhead them talking while putting 8mm Mauser ammo into a M1 Garand clip with 30-06, because "this ammo is cheaper and soldiers used it all the time when they ran low in ww2"
They had the gall to argue with me even after I showed them that .323" was significantly larger than .308" with some veniers I have in my range bag.
Ended up kicking them out for the day because I didn't want to fill out an accident report. No idea if they ever blew up their Garand.

No real way to blow it up. It would never get close enough to going into battery, the case neck would jam in the throat.Magos_Mal wrote:It's amazing what some people will do when it comes to mismatching ammo.

Re: funny range pickup
I've seen 2 different people do this. Both were M1 Garands chambered for 30-06 shooting .308. One guy asked me to help when he thought the rifle wouldn't group. The other I stopped when I saw the tell tale casings eject my way. Funny thing is that the guns cycled, and both guys hesitated to stop even after seeing what it did to their brass.
