Anyone drop 223 in favor of 300blk?

Post by harrishmasher »

Has anyone here completely gotten out of 223/5.56 ARs in favor of 300blk? In other words, did you have a bunch of 223/5.56 ARs and sell them off in favor of 300blk ARs?

I sold off my 6.8 and (2) 223/556 AR's to some locals without any AR's. I did keep a 223/556 upper, but dont use it, it is in storage.

I never built a 223 AR. No interest in a varmit round.
300 changed that, so I assembled my first and only AR
in 300!

With all that's going on someone would sell a 5.56 AR??

As much as we all like the 300 BLK it is a fairly limited range weapon, and fits an entirely different niche than the 5.56. Hunting is not the only reason to own either one.

I'm not suggesting that everyone runs out and sells all their ARs in 5.56. My thinking is I can't imagine ever needing to use a rifle out past 300 yards. It seems to me that a 300blk rifle, even at 9", offers superior terminal performance out to 300 yards than 5.56. So I'm beginning to think that maybe 1 caliber will work for me. I currently have 3 ARs in 5.56 (LWRC UCIW, LWRC M6SL, and an old Colt), and only 1 300blk (9" AAC MPW + 762-SDN-6 suppressor). I have been flirting with the idea of getting out of 5.56 and focusing on one caliber and picking up a couple of more 300blk ARs.

If you can't imagine it, then you don't need it. There is constant conflict between needs and wants for everyone.

I love 300 Blackout (have a 9" pistol and a 16" rifle), and have reloading supplies for 4K+ rounds, but I'm currently building a 5.56 for 3 gun and ammo availability versatility. I've always thought it's a good idea to have a weapon, chambered in a major military round, on hand.
No matter what you read on the intarweb CCI450s and CCI41s ARE NOT BALLISTICALLY IDENTICAL with H110! I'm also not a intarweb lawyer so I don't argue with anyone who is.

Nope....I didn't sell or change either of my 5.56 rifles to build my 300BLK.
I did convert one of my 6.8 rifles to 300BLK. I had 2 of each 5.56 and 6.8
and decided that I would rather have 1 each in 300 and 6.8.....but I kept
both of my 5.56 rifles.

Both the 6.8 and 300BLK are a lot more expensive to shoot than my 5.56
rifles. I kept my 12.5" SBR and my 16" rifles in 5.56.....and I shoot them
A LOT more than either the 300BLK or 6.8 options.

I had a bushmaster .223 that I sold and bought a DPMS in .308, then built a 300. Love me some 30 caliber!

Up until the 300 BLK, I would only own a firearm chambered in a "Military Standard" NATO cartridge.
- 7.62 / 308 WIN
- 5.56 / .223 REM
- .22LR
- 12 Gauge
- 9MM
- .50 BMG

300 BLK is the first cartridge that I felt strongly enough about to move into a "NON-MIL" cartridge.
I think that it is appropriate that 300 BLK, 40 S&W, 300 WIN MAG, and .338 Lapua be upgraded to "Military Standard" status though. (Fuck NATO)
