Re: See what happens when you fire a 300 in a 223 upper
I wouldn't think you could even chamber a 300 round in a 223 barrel. Wouldn't the larger diameter of the 300 BLK prevent it from actually entering the barrel? Apparently not...
Re: See what happens when you fire a 300 in a 223 upper
Handloads with light bullet tension I would bet.
Had to happen sooner or later I guess. Back when I worked at a gunrange I saw 243 in 308, 308 in 30-06, 300win in 300 weatherby, and a few others. 243 in a 270 caused some excitement when he finially got a good primer strike that fired. I always wondered how long it would take before somebody loaded a 338 federal in a 30-06.

I guess that's what a pop and no kick would look like. Wonder what it would have been like if he had a metal magazine?
Re: See what happens when you fire a 300 in a 223 upper
That looks nasty, OP. Glad is wasn't worse than that.
Wrong magazine or wrong upper?

I bet a quick punch to the forward assist pushed the bullet right on back in the case.
Re: See what happens when you fire a 300 in a 223 upper
I wondered about the chance of that happening, so I dropped a BLK round in the 5.56 and released the bolt, it was close so I tried the forward assist but thankful it wouldn't go Then I tried a 5.56 into the BLK nogo, so it seems a crimped round is safe.
