Is 1/8 twist on the way out?

Post by burton »

Heard from my brother at SHOT that AAC is going 1/7 twist...

Is 1/8 twist on the way out?

If so, what is the reasoning behind this change?

I was told by a really good shooter that he was changing his 300 Whisper over to 1:7. He believed it would keep the subsonics stable a little longer after they hit before tumbling.

I'd be interested if AAC was going 1:7, although I doubt it's for subsonic terminal performance.

I forgot what thread I read but if I remember correctly Robert did confirm the 1 in 7 and again if I remember correctly it was for 240 SMK's. I think the question was raised due to a picture of a barrel with 1 in 7 stamped on it in a review of the 300 on Gunblast.

Haven't found the thread but here is a link to the Gunblast review:

Note the picture on the bottom right hand side with the 1 in 7 twist indicated.

The new Remington Scout/Tactical rifle is a 300 BLK that has a heavier profile barrel in 1:7 and a better stock.. but no one piece scope rail..

ETA image and clarify "Scout Rifle" as TACTICAL rifle

I've had issues with the SMK 240's. If the 1 in 7" barrels help, then I'm all for it.

I'm curious about the 300 Blackout 1/7" ARs, any news?

This is part of a thread I was trying to recall earlier. I know that I also read on a thread in December about the Gunblast article and someone asked about the 1 in 7 and Robert said it is for the 240's. Maybe my memory is wrong though.
