Remington ammo / noveske barrel stability issues with pics

Post by 66427vette »

I am getting major keyholing issues with rem. subsonic ammo and 8 inch noveske barrel. Target was at 15 yards. Any ideas?

Was that with or with out a can installed. If you had a can installed remove it and shoot it with out, you maybe strikeing baffels because of miss alinement of some sort.

That was the test before we tried the can. That would of ruined any can. Really disappointed to say the least.

I got similar results last Monday at the range. I was shooting handloaded 220s at 1020 fps avg and half of my bullets keyholed. (Not as bad as yours though!)

It turns out my barrel actually has a 1:8.75" twist and not 1:8 like I thought. You may need to test your twist rate.

Noveske 1 in 8 twist barrel . Rate of twist is correct . Barrel was clean and crown looks perfect . All 40 rounds keyholed. Ammo issue??? Rsilvers any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Agreed...Glad there was no can on there...And yes, everything I read on the Noveske barrel says 1 in 8 twist.

If you've already checked the twist, next thing I would do would be to put a set of verniers on the ammo, and if those check out, to slug the bore.
If you have a chronograph and feel brave, it would be interesting to see what kind of velocity they are getting as well.
