.22LR ballistics vs 300 BLK?

Post by libertyman777 »

Do they match up pretty close? I'm thinking about a BDC reticle that's matched to .22LR High Velocity at around 1250 fps or so. Here's the reticle>

If that reticle was based on .22lr subsonic it would be perfect for starlings and sparrows out to distance. I got a Nikon Omega(muzzle loader scope) 1.65-5x36 with the BDC 250 reticle for my BLK (from natchez SS for $99) . You can go to nikon spot on .com and select which nikon BDC scope you have select caliber and round or customize( 220 gr 1000fps .704 BC etc). You select magnifcation and it tells where the round should strike on all markings. It let's you print up sheets in various sizes so you can have it with you or on your stock.

Reg price on scope is 229 and I have looked through them at Dicks and they were $259. Scope is new in box not refurbished! Great deal. I'f you order from them they have Warne rings on sale(get medium at least).

It's actually closer than you would think. I've been trying to decide on a scope for my bolt-gun when it comes back, and I've been looking at that same Pride Fowler for the exact reasons you are. Here are some trajectory numbers I ran for both 22LR HV and 300 BLK subs (zero at 50 yards, 1.5" sight height, same elevation, temp and barometric pressure).

300 BLK - 220gr SMK at 1050fps MV with a BC of .608
22LR - 40gr at 1250fps MV with a BC of .140

That's about 3" difference at 200 yards.

Thanks for the graphic. I figured they were close. I'd be willing to bet that things would tighten up even more with a 100+ zero.

I'm going to pick it up.
