That, at that 1:11 twist did not lower pressures over 1:10 twist, and that so-called "advancements" were just loading over max pressure and to longer than normal OAL, etc.

If you are not shooting subs, I cant see a downside except maybe you have to order ammo
which just for hunting is not a big deal.
I can think of a lot of downsides:

1. One maker supporting it rather than 130 or so for 300 BLK.
2. Very short neck - little bullet support.
3. Taper is not the same as 5.56mm.
4. Requires special magazines if you want full capacity.
5. If you make brass, it must be fire formed before use.
6. Only about 80 fps faster.
7. No ammo as low priced as 300 BLK.
Banditman wrote:The 7.62x40 will only show about 200 fps more at the muzzle.
Sigh. Someone once said this, and it is repeated forever as if it were a fact. The reality is that 7.62x40mm is about 80fps faster.

7.62x40mm has almost none of the benefits of 300 BLK.

Well if you won't admit the truth to your own people, then there is no point.

I like the ar platform no matter what I'm shooting through it 5.56, 6.8, or 300blk. They all have their ups and downs. I just have to use the one I need for the specific task at hand

Then it would be the first cartridge in history to do so.

No matter what people say, making large quantities of 300 brass sucks.
The novelty wears off quickly.
I cry when I lose brass at the range.
Why make brass when you can buy it for 12 cents each? Why cry when you lose brass that you can buy for 12 cents?
eightring wrote:The terminal performance of subs is bad, there are no .308 caliber pistol bullets and specialty bullets are very expensive.
A .45 acp or 10mm will kill things much more dead.
Maybe, maybe not.
eightring wrote:Any 200gr + bullet for subs gets to be very expensive to load, so people are trying to get lighter and lighter bullets to cycle subsonic.
They have gone from the 220 & 240 SMK, to the 208gr AMAX.
Some are experimenting with 180gr with mixed results.
I'm trying to work up a load for some 190gr spire points blems.

14.4 cents a bullet. How is that very expensive?
eightring wrote:No matter what other people tell you, get an adjustable gas block.
You are not the .mil who shoots only a single load, you want the flexibility to experiment with different powders
and bullet weights.
Almost no one should want an adjustable gas block. You can shoot dozens of types of loads and stay within Colt M4 specs for cyclic rate.
eightring wrote:Supersonic performance from a 14+ inch barrel is not so good in comparison to most other chamberings.
300 BLK has more energy from a 16 inch barrel than 5.56mm from a 24 inch. For terminal effectiveness, it is far better than 5.56mm - especially through intermediate barriers. Barnes expands to 0.500 to 0.600 at 300 yards from a 9 inch barrel. No 5.56mm comes close to that.
eightring wrote:[*] A good number of people seem to be reporting accuracy issues with the Blackout.
I have not shot for accuracy yet to see if this is the case with my SBR
50 rounds - 10 groups of 5 shots each, into 0.85 average at 100 yards - that is our test data for 110 grain Sierra and Berger bullets from a fixtured test barrel.

You generally can't make a bad idea popular with marketing, but I don't see what 45 GAP has to do with 300 BLK. Think more of 40 S&W.
thebomber wrote:The 300 BLK will never get the market penetration to be successful in the long run. In supersonic form it has no real advantagesover a 7.63x39
7.62x39mm does not work in the AR15 well enough to be viable. Even if it did, American LE would never use it.

I like having 2 AR guns in one and one of them a rich uncle that dresses funny( ) taught me to use it.
I like the commonality of parts.
I have/ will reload so can lower costs and ammo isn't as expensive as .308Win.
I relalize it is a medium range round, for longer distance & larger game (someday), I have my Sako .308 bolt gun.
I tell people who don't know about the Blkout it is an improved American version AK47 round.

For a real challenge I have Mosin Nagant w/ iron sights.
I assembled the 300 for plinking and pigs. ( also for deer, which in these parts are oversized great danes.)

Argue all thead long, I like what I have and shoot what I have.

To all you HATERS...either you don't understand and are blowing ignorant smoke, or you have tried it and it isn't for you. Either way...no problem...move on with your lives, we still love you. Personally, I tried it, I like it, and it has become my favorite gun like no other in my safe has. I have multiple calibers and styles of guns, and the 300 blackout will always have a place in my collection. It is the sweetest shooting weapon I have out to 250 yds...it is just a pleasure to shoot. The whole 300 experience from building my own AR, to learning new ballistics, and learning to reload for the platform has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my 45 years of hunting, shooting, and reloading hobbies/sports.

Keep your negativity to yourselves, move on to something productive in YOUR lives, maybe find something to positively energize YOU the way 300 blk has for me and let those of us who love it or want to learn more about it do so in a positive productive light.

With love,

Um, no. 300 BLK is the opposite of specialized. It is incredibly wide in application - with applications for bullets from 100-250 grains - about the widest range of any cartridge.
