So I'm doing it. I've pretty much got it figured out, but what to use for a barrel. Any suggestions, will have the host Saiga .223 for conv. next weekend, AK 105 gasblock is ordered. Will have AAC Krink sometime later this yr. after paperwork clears. Can I use an AR barrel and turn it down to my needs? I'm an AK guy so not sure about AR barrel dimensions. Thanks in advance. Really wanted to do a knock-off of the 9x39 Gromm, but was becoming rapidly cost prohibitive for semi-economical shooting!

Why? As opposed to, 7.62x39.

Why not?

The 300BLK has better ballistics with shorter barrels and has subsonic capabilities. Imagine a krink SBR with the same performance as it's longer barreled brother AND the ability to (potentially) cycle subsonic and suppressed.

I say potentially simply because a 300BLK AK would be a new beast to tune.

You could also get a fast-twist 7.62x39mm barrel made, but in a 308 bore - and then use 308 bullets.

9x39mm is cool - and I would do that before other subsonic-only rounds.

We did some .358 delta's which is a 7.62x39, with taper removed and steeper shoulder, necked to .358. It makes for a pretty cool subsonic round in the ak and the AR. Works better with 74 mags in the AK.

What Robert said, you can load 7.62 subsonic just fine. Lee dies for it are only like 20 bucks.
You can acutally make an ak shoot decent if you build it up with the same care of building anything else.

You can load 7.62x39 subsonic. Besides marginally better ballistics, I don't see an overwhelming reason as to why.

13.3gr of 1680 and a 220gr hornaday round nose bullet worked for me. Kinda have to seat the bullet deep to get the pressure up for the round to function in an AK. their was a little yaw at 100yds

I would think slower than 1680 powder would be wanted.

I tell you, I turn to this board for help. I'm getting more criticism than anything. I don't like DI or ARs, so I want to do an AK in 300 BLK. Any constructive help would be appreciated.

I dont really have anything constructive to offer, but it is interesting and I would love to see some pics when its done!
