Load ideas

Post by poke_53 »

I have several 180gr soft point and 150gr Winchester silvertip bullets I have a need to load. I am looking for data for these using either h110 or IMR4227. I am us an AR platform with a 16" barrel with carbine gas system. Mostly supersonic but would like some sub sonic data for the 180's if it is possible. Might hunt with the 150's so I would llike max velocity for those.

Thanks

Hey buddy, you may try 15ish grains of h110 for the 150g, and you can make 180g bullets cycle subsonic with IMR4895.
Also, I think another powder that will work subsonic in a carbine system with at least 200g up is 2230 and 2230c.

Tactical weapons magazine is running an article this coming month on loading for the 300 BLK. We supplied them at least 15 loads, and they got loads from other places too, so it should have alot of data for both subs and supers. Im glad to see a bigger magazine doing articles on the blk. They will also be doing an article comparing uppers from some of the different manufacturers doing BLK's.

Not 180 gr but close, M118 pulls, 175gr OTM bullets, fired from both a CMMG and Delta Company arms 16 inch barrels, both with Carbine Gas.

started at 14.6 H110 2.020 OAL, very mild load, some short stroking, no chrony data

Ended at 16 gr H110 2.040 OAL same barrels, cycled GREAT, just shy of 1800fps, no pressure signs.(don't start loading here, work up to it)

M118 7.5gr AA#9 2.040, less than 1000 fps, barely works in pistol gas, short cycle in carbine gas(no can)

From a good friend, M118 16g WC844 1200fps, 9onch barrel, pistol gas, and a can(unknown if carbine gas will work)

I somehow have to sneak some to him, I think he does testing right behind the shop, then he shares his data with us :)

Actually, I get my reloading data in a different way. Every friday night my neighbors come over to play poker. At the end of every beer, I add up the number value of cards I have. Thats how many grains I post for a given bullet weight...

Any idea of oal for these? Especially consider the cannelure placement. When I seat them to a possible proper length the cannelures are outside the case. Does that matter?

Ive got 180's to cycle with 4895, you may be able to achieve that with 175's. Im guessin it will take something like 15g slightly compressed.
