Updated OALs

This is my latest data for most optimal feeding from an AR magazine.

• Hornady 110 V-Max, OAL: 2.068
• Nosler Ballistic Tip 125 grain, OAL: 2.085
• Remington AccuTip 125 grain, OAL: 2.130
• Sierra 150 FMJ-BT, OAL: 2.080
• Sierra 150 ProHunter, OAL: 2.040
• Sierra 155 #2156 Palma, OAL: 2.130
• Sierra 210 MatchKing, OAL: 2.190
• Sierra 220 MatchKing, OAL: 2.089
• Hornady 225, OAL: 2.140

What magazine? They are all different and respond differently.

I remember you saying that these OALs are optimized to make the rib contact the bullet where its diameter matches the .223 case neck. Have you considered asking one of the die makers to make a comparator insert in that diameter? That way people could measure to a more consistent point than OAL (same idea as measuring base to ogive, just using a different diameter for the gauge).

Most of those values where made from CAD software loading the bullet and the magazine model and checking nominal fit.

Just curious have you tried the funtion/reliability of the 300 Blk in a Beta Mag?

No, but I have a SF mag on order and will eventually try that. I own Beta mags, but lost interest in them.

Does this mean that the magazines with the rib removed will not be necessary?

The magazines with the rib removed are necessary for ammo loaded longer. A prime example of this is 3-gun ammo which makes major PF. That calls for a 175 grain MatchKing loaded to 2.26 OAL which will make 330PF in a 16 inch barrel.
