Has 300BLK / 7.62x35 ACTUALLY been released by SAAMI?

Post by este »

Like the subject says, has the final draft been RELEASED or still PENDING? I must know because in order my for my machinist to buy a reamer he must have the purchase date AFTER the official release date. If it's before and he uses that reamer, something goes wrong, he can be liable.

If PTG has the final draft, that's great, but I still need to know if it is SAAMI APPROVED AND RELEASED.

If something goes wrong on 308 he can also be liable, depending on where the liability lies.

MANY "308" reamers are outside of SAAMI specs, by the way. For example, 308 requires a min freebore of 0.310, and there are reamer drawings where it was 0.3085, 0.3090, or 0.3095.

It was submitted to SAAMI in June. Their next meeting is in January. There was no vote yet.

Got it.

% chance they will require a design change for approval? I was told plenty about Grendel "revisions" and factory ammo not working in X date reamer, and etc.

It stands to reason that if Cerb is willing to put their name on the product and ship now it should be pretty safe for others to jump on.

Still, what are the chances (I realize I am asking an impartial source) that something will change or even fail approval?

Well, if we did something suspect, like used a 0.3085 throat, then I would say someone might object. But since we copied the base of the cartridge from another SAAMI drawing (221 Fireball), and then used a reasonable throat and angle - I think the chances of someone asking something be changed are very low. Remington is very conservative, and since they are already making ammo to the drawing then they are not concerned.

If someone did ask for something to be changed, would the uppers be affected?

Only if the change effected the uppers.

I want to purchase the 9 in upper. If a change were to affect the uppers would AAC cover it?

Probably - there won't be that many uppers out there that it would be hard to cover. But really, the chance of a change is minimal. The creator of the cartridge gets to pick the specs.
