300 BLK Accuracy Potential

Post by Dr.Phil »

Since it has been stated that the most efficent barrel length for a 300 BLK (SS) is 9",
what is the accuracy potential for the 300 BLK in this barrel length?
What was the best accuracy that you have encountered out of a short barrel in either 300 BLK, 300 / 221 Fireball, or "300 Whisper(R)"?

Would 1 MOA accuracy out to 400 yards be possible with quality hand loads?
If so, this would make the 9" upper setup a formitable platform for a multi-role weapons system.

The 9 inch precision is in the spec sheet. This was generated from 175 rounds fired from 7 uppers (25 rounds each) with no flyers subtracted and was at 100 meters.

With the 16 inch Model 7 light barrel, we did 10 groups of 5 rounds each with the 155 ammo and it was 0.8 MOA average. That is not a BS 3 shot group picked out of several. No discarded rounds. No flyers. No BS.

Try Berger flat base bullets and Sierra Game Kings for hand loads.

Did you happen to test the 220 SMK load?

Thanks for posting the test results.
I was hoping that was the case.
Having the 9" as a PDW platform only would be a waste.

My build is going to be whatever Noveske puts out as their SBR length barrel coupled with the PRI Full Length Forearm & ARMS 38 SPR-PEQ-2 Sleeve so that my TBAC 30P-1 is recessed into the hand guard.
(Should look like a Mk12 Mod0 and an MP5SD had a baby.)

The 9 inch precision was the 220 SMK with a silencer.

Sounds like the 16 is a great option beyond SBR lengths.

the 16" Robert is talking about above is the one for a Remington 700/Model-7. but, yes, the round performs very well from a non-sbr barrel too.

Thanks for pointing that out Jason. I missed that the first time.

Sorry if this has been covered, but will using a 762SD-08 on a 9" 300 BLK invalidate your warranty?
